How many of us plan our wedding around special/memorable occasions? Over the years, I’ve seen my fair share of weddings that take place on momentous days: New Year’s Eve, Easter Weekend, Independence Day, Labor Day Weekend, Thanksgiving, and more. Of course, all of these weddings were special in their own way, but nothing tops the thoughtfulness of this couple as they celebrated on a day that has been in the family for 50 years!

Lauren Elizabeth Perot and Mr. Caleb Gene Carney were wed on December 14, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shreveport, Louisiana which was officiated by Father Matthew Long. The day was perfect; full of laughter, happy tears and beautiful details. The coolest part? The bride’s grandparents, Dale and Elizabeth Martin, were also married at St. Joseph Catholic Church EXACTLY 50 years prior.

Months before the wedding, the bride and her mom came to me with the best idea! Of course, the bride wanted to do something special for her grandparents at the wedding to celebrate their anniversary, so as a surprise, we were going to replicate their wedding cake! After digging through pictures and finding the perfect one, we knew exactly whom to contact. Georgie Girl Cakery created the most beautiful 3-tiered wedding cake, which was brought out as the bride’s grandparents were dancing to the same song that they danced to on their wedding day 50 years prior. The mother of the bride, Lisa Kerry, even found the original cake topper, which made the cake identical. Can you imagine the tears that filled the place? It’s these moments that I cherish and the reason why I always leave feeling like part of the family!

Of course, the party continued as guests enjoyed dinner, music and cake. Guests wished the bride and groom happiness as they made their grand exit through our snow filled tunnel and were treated to mini bottles of wine, homemade by the bride and her step-father. It was a night I’ll never forget!

We asked Mrs. Elizabeth Martin for her best marriage advice: No matter how hard it gets (and it will get hard), always honor your vows. Also, give yourself some space when you need it.

We want to wish Mr. and Mrs. Caleb Carney years of love and happiness. We also want to thank Mr. and Mrs. Dale Martin for sharing their love story and advice with us. Cheers to 50 years!
